It was my first time going to this kind of party so I was very excited about going. Dawn didn't call us despite the major snowfall and the warning that another storm was coming so I presumed the party was still on. Five mommies turned up along with their daughters as it was a party for mothers and daughters. Everyone came with a daughter but I brought two... Dawn had invited more guests but some couldn't make it due to the bad weather I guess. The afternoon started with a late lunch and Dawn served sandwiches, vegetables, crackers and cheese and the 'green stuff' made from pistachio nuts and crushed pineapple (it was good!). I think the lunch was to be followed by cookie sampling but everyone was full so we skipped the sampling and went straight to packing the cookies home! There was also a photo session for each mother and daughter or daughters at the end of the day. Thanks for inviting us Dawn and thank you also to all the mommies for the yummy cookies! We had so much fun....

FAREWELL DINNER AT SHAMINA'S
|
|
As I mentioned in my previous entry, I was going for a dinner at my friend's house, Shamina last Friday. We were there close to 7:00 p.m. but Nina had to cheer for her basketball team, so she joined us after the game. Shamina cooked very delicious dinner for us which include pilaf rice, chicken curry, meatball in sauce, noodle with vegetables and meat pie. For desserts she made sweet vercimilli noodle (I'm not sure of it's name in Bangole) and baklava (a dessert famous in Turkey where her husband is from). Seriously, I don't know how she managed to prepare all that with three young kids but I think she has good management skills... We really had such a great time at her place and Farah also enjoyed playing with Shamina's kids, Sameer, Mahir and Emre. Thanks Shamina for inviting us over and for the good food.... Thanks also for the gift for my kids. We appreciate everything you did very much!

BUSY, BUSY, BUSY...
|
|
It's been absolutely crazy around here these past few days and the past weekend trying to finish packing and juggling between Adam, the kids' activities and baking 9 dozens of cookies. The good news though, I finished packing this past weekend...well, almost 100%. The shipping guys are supposed to come next week hubby had told me. The bad news however, they recently communicated back to us about the shipping rate and it has ridiculously been increased to 15 dollars per cubic foot. I think it's simply outrageous and I feel like we've been taken advantage of. So, we decided not to use their service and hubby may have to find another shipping company or opt for plan B which I will not go into detail. I'll let him handle that since he's better at it!
Though I've been rather busy, I'm enjoying the last two weeks that I have left here on Bush's land. First of, we went to Parent Watch Day for my kids' gymnastics lesson on Wednesday. Both Nina and Farah were in Advanced Gymnastics Level I . The last level is Advanced II but sadly they will not be able to continue...Unlike in summer time where the kids compete among themselves which Nina and Farah were lucky enough to participate in the past, in winter they allow parents to come on the last day of practise to see what the kids have learned throughout the session. Had lots of pictures taken but they were not that good. I think my camcorder would do more justice because the kids were running, jumping and tumbling away and it was hard to capture those moves on camera. Coming back from the program we had to rush for Nina's winter concert and I had a minor accident. I was walking and carrying Adam when I accidentally stepped on the icy snow and skidded. My entire body was flat on the ground and Adam was holding on to me on my chest crying. It felt like I was ice-skating except without my skating shoes on.... Absolutely hillarious!!! Not to worry though...I didn't injure myself but just had some pain on my...you know what. Anyway, we managed to leave the house for Nina's concert almost 7:00 p.m and had a hard time finding a parking spot because the concert was meant for both middle and high schools, so the crowd was pretty crazy. Glad that I was ok because the concert was so awesome and Nina's high school band sounded really amazing!
Well... so much about today's update! I'll have a busy schedule ahead of me. These are some activities in the pipeline for the rest of the week and next week...
12/14 Dinner at Shamina's
12/16 Cookie Swap Party at Dawn's (now you know why I have to bake 9 dozens cookies!)
12/18 Farah's winter concert
12/19 Dinner at Kathy's
Will try to update as much as I can before I leave on 24th (Christmas Eve)...

SOMEONE HAS A NEW CAMERA
|
|
Unfortunately it wasn't me... Nina wanted a camera so badly since I started this fotopage because she said I kinda 'own' the camera which is true to a certain extent... We were at a store recently and she saw a Samsung camera and asked me if she could get one and I told her Dad always goes for Sony. She went, I know...but I just wanted a camera Mom...Dad is always like Sony, Sony, Sony.....Yupp! My hubby is a Sony fanatic and he'd rather wait for the sale than getting another brand which he did exactly that for this camera. Yesterday, after school, he surprised Nina with this new camera and Nina was totally in disbelief and she was like, You bought me a camera? When? Does it have a color Dad? So, he showed her the box with a small pink color on it...and she said, Ahhh...Thank you Dad!!! Actually, she could have gotten an ipod Nano 8GB 3rd generation for the same price but told me her MP3 can do almost the same job except viewing videos and playing games which she is not so crazy about...at least right now...
Did Farah get anything? Well...not this time because she just got a Selmar saxaphone (a used one) when school started and on top of that she is not responsible enough to take care of a camera yet. She was pretty upset initially and it took her a while for all that to sink in but in the end she obediently agreed...That's my kind of girl...

A WISH CAME TRUE
|
|
I was overjoyed for Farah...Just days ago she had wished for the snow to fall before we leave and this morning we woke up to a blanket of fresh white snow in our lawn from last night's heavy snowfall. Farah was jumping with joy when I let her play outside. She told me she wanted to make her last snowman with Ebonie who lives just doors away but unfortunately she was at the church. Not to dissappoint her, I took Adam outside to play along for a short time and we took some pictures as well. When Ebonie called in the afternoon to ask her to come over to make a snowman, I saw a huuuuuge smile and a sign of relief on her face...

ICE-SKATING WITH BFF ASHLEY
|
|
It was a fun day for Farah and her best friend Ashley who were at the ice-skating rink today. Ashley knows that we are leaving but Farah hasn't told her the exact date yet because she doesn't want to make Ashley sad...Couple days ago Nina had told her best friend and she cried almost the whole night...It's tough on these kids and that is killing me in the inside...

| Quote: | | MamaFami ~ Betul tu Mama...it's never fun to part from people you've known for so long...bukan nak kata anak2, kita sendiri pun dah rasa semacam jer nih! But but like you said life has to go on, like it or not! |

LASAGNA, ANYONE?
|
|
At this time of the year, I like to cook using my oven to keep the house nice and warm. Not that the heater doesn't keep us warm enough...I just I like it warmer... . I guess after more than five years here, I'm still not used to the winter weather in the Snow City. It's too extreme for me...just like summer in Tucson, Arizona that I experienced during late 80's/early 90's... (talk about another extreme weather!)
So, I wanted to make something western today for a change. Last week on her daily show, I saw Rachel Ray make this lasagna with a new twist and thought of giving it a try. Lasagna is one of my family's favorites but I have always made the traditional one using spaghetti sauce but this one uses pumpkin as the sauce instead. Coincidentally, I still have some unused pumpkin in my fridge. Part of it was used to make a pumpkin pie for the Thanksgiving dinner. I used 2/3 of her recipe to fit my 8x8 dish. My family loved this new lasagna!

Kuzi ~ Mesti dorang kata bertuah betul anak menantu aku...kahkahkah...
Kejora ~ Betul tuh...mmg x leh mkn selalu...

A DELAYED THANKSGIVING
|
|
Thanksgiving at our house was delayed till yesterday because of our busy schedule . Initiallly thought of making a roast chicken but I was so tempted to cook our last turkey. Since hubby had bought a 10-lb-turkey, we decided to call up a few friends at UB to help us finish the bird . Spent the entire morning and afternoon cooking the full dinner course because I was determined to cook everything from scratch. Felt so tired by the end of the day but had an enjoyable time eating and chatting!
| Quote: | Kuzi ~ Buat Kuzi...Jangan tak buat... Nanti mengidam lak nak makan turkey! |

After we ate the turkey, we went shopping on Black Friday and again today. Nina said it would be fun to go to the mall at 5:00 a.m. because all her friends did that on Black Friday but I told her no way hose I was going to leave my bed that early to go shopping! So, Friday morning around 11:00 a.m. we headed to Walden Galleria Mall for the Doorbuster Sale which started as early as 4:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m.. Nina got some nice shirts and tops from her favorite stores Hollister and American Eagle. Farah was not into clothes but she has been wanting to get a Webkinz for sometime...finally, got her first Webkinz (probably her last one too ) for sixteen something dollars...too much I thought for a small stuffed animal...but she could chat online with other Webkinz owners and do other cool stuff and most importantly, she won't bug me again, hopefully!
After a whole afternoon at the mall yesterday, our shopping spree continued today at Niagara Falls Fashion Outlet, about 30 minutes drive from our house. Wanna see what we bought? Just look at the picture below...
It's a long list...so, I won't even attempt to list them down. Some of them are for me but the rest are for my sister (Anis), sister-in-law (Mak Ngah) and my friend (Che Dah)...
| Quote: | Daalia ~ Same here! Bukan apa Lea...dah telanjur I ada kat sini, beli ler sket utk pakai. Kalo kat Mesia tu x beli rasanyer. Btw, saw your Shadow Iris set masa open hse u. Bought the same set for my mom early 90's...
Kuzi ~ Betul tu...menangis airmata darah pun tiada guna...hahaha...
Yaty ~ Ye ker? Jauh tu shopping dari DC...Btw, thanks for visiting my fp...senang2 singgah ler lagi!
